NFL rumors: Cowboys named Joey Porter Jr. trade fit, and it makes sense appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

It was a tough Week 1 for the Dallas Cowboys. The same can be said for Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. The Cowboys have been named a trade fit for Porter, and it makes even more sense after the disaster against the Giants.

The Cowboys landed at the top of Fowler's list of potential partners, according to ESPN.

"Dallas has been looking for cornerback help, though more so in the bargain bin to this point," Jeremy Fowler wrote. "The franchise has trade-market rapport with Pittsburgh GM Omar Khan. The sides have reached deals in back-to-back offseasons, as Dallas traded for wide receiver George Pickens in May 2025 and offensive tackle Broderick Jones on Aug. 29.

"The problem: Dallas has given up some of its draft capital. The team has seven selections in 2027, but four of those are in the sixth and seventh rounds. Porter would likely cost at least a second-round pick, possibly a first. The Cowboys owe the better of theirs or Green Bay's first-round pick to the New York Jets, and their third-round selection to the Steelers."

Will the Steelers trade CB Joey Porter Jr.?

Of course, there are two things that would need to happen for the Cowboys to get Porter. First, the Steelers would have to be willing to make a trade. And second, the Cowboys would have to pony up the draft capital to get him.

And would they trade him to the Cowboys? It seems like the Steelers should put a high asking price on talks with the Cowboys. After all, the Cowboys smoked the Steelers for George Pickens.

What's the holdup with a potential Porter deal? It is a complicated situation, according to ESPN.

"This is probably the most complicated of them all," Jeremy Fowler wrote. "Momentum for a deal just hasn't been there. My sense is the player has been frustrated that, despite his status as a high-level man corner, he hasn't been made a priority. The 2023 draft picks getting paid by Pittsburgh — linebacker Nick Herbig and defensive tackle Keeanu Benton, who received four-year extensions this summer — play smaller roles."

Other teams on the trade-fit list are the Lions, Saints, Jets, and 49ers.
